1. Refrigerator note for little brother

Your little brother is going to ride his bike to school for the first time in Uruguay, tell about the most important signs including some that he may never have seen in the EEUU and do so by using negative and affirmative tú commands.

2. Estrella/Cantante

You are a huge star in the EEUU and you have just returned from a trip in Latin America. You have just received a call from David Letterman and he wants to ask you about your driving experience, explain to him about some of the crazy driving experiences with things like despertadores or animals sueltos and use affirmative and negative tú commands so he knows he should or should not do certain things. Also, don't forget to tell me who you are.

Pre-reading:

Have students answer in writing the following question and then discuss:

Reading:

Skimming/Scanning

Have students look at the website: http://www.montevideo.gub.uy/transito/carretera.htm look under section entitled Nueve puntos para pasar con seguridad cuando las condiciones lo permitan have students list all the cognates they can for this section.

Careful reading

Go to page http://www.montevideo.gub.uy/transito/carretera.htm and once again scroll down to Nueve puntos para pasar con seguridad cuando las condiciones lo permitan. Have students change from infinitive to affirmative and negative tú commands.

Or/and

Have students play a bingo game using the different images on http://www.montevideo.gub.uy/transito/reglamentaria.htm and http://www.montevideo.gub.uy/transito/advertencia.htm (you could probably just go there print in black and white then have students paste them to the board I have included and after they are glued they can be laminated or put in sheet protectors to be used for a very long time). When calling out the different road signs be sure you use affirmative or negative tú commands for example: Ten cuidado con la curva; no vayas demasiado rápido cerca del jardín de infantes.

If you don't mind a small mess, have students cut them out , sit in groups of two and play slap - two students sit together with cards face up and when you describe it they pick up the card and win a point.

If you don't want to deal with the mess involved in cutting and gluing have students get into groups and do a tocadedo activity - two students together and as you say the commands have students point to the correct picture in a race to see which one the group of two will find it first.
